Cats of the month: (scroll down to see our latest cats ready for new homes)

Why should I give a home to an older cat?

there are many good and valid reasons why an older cat should be considered: many of the cats that come to us are ready made pets from already kind and loving homes and so will settle into a new home more readily esp. with our advice and support.

all our cats are neutered before leaving our shelter and so there is no immediate expense, sometime they may be vaccinated and chipped by previous owner.

there are many situations which are more suitable for older cats e.g. older people, and as indoor only cats

older cats are house trained and used to people

although we do have kittens from time to time and home them easily our personal sympathies go to the adult cats who are less trouble and who will not (usually) trash the house on a regular basis!

by having one of our cats you enable us to help others by letting us keep our numbers on an even keel, every day the phone rings with more cats needing to come in.

we supply all non-vet advice with the cat as well as loaning equipment if needed and are always a phone call away, and of course if the new cat doesn't work out we always take him/her back without hesitation.

because some of our cats have an awful time before they come to use they always make loyal and loving cats, it is as if they have seen the rougher side of life and appreciate a loving environment

Gizz is 12 years old. She is so friendly, it was difficult to get a proper photo as she just wanted a fuss. They had only recently come in when these photos were taken, and it doesn't really do her justice. She has the sweetest face. A lovely little cat.

Rehomed. Thank You

Tibbs is 12 and came in with Gizz. She has been poisoned and as a result has lost half of her tail, and part of her ear. A lovely cat. The owners are distraught at having to find a new home for these two, but had no choice as they are going into rented accommodation where no pets are allowed. Please can you give them a loving home?

Rehomed. Thank You

Kitty is a gingery tortoishell, about 14 years old. She is very pretty, and friendly with people but hates the other cats. She came to us from Telford. Her owners were going into sheltered accommodation and were told that no cats are allowed. They were heartbroken to have to let her go. She has been well looked after and loved, and likes to sit on your lap. She would suit an older person.

If we hadn't taken her in, she would have been put to sleep.

Update: Kitty is a lovely cat, but found it difficult here with the other cats, so we have placed her with a foster carer for now. She would love a new home where she can be on her own and loved. If that sounds like you, please get in touch.

This is Pippa, she is, approx 10 years old. Tabby and white, short hair. She is microchipped, spayed and vaccinated. Very loving, does like fussing on her own terms. Prefers adults in a good safe home. Playful and like to play with soft toys. Pippa tends to stay in most of the time but does pop out here and there for exercise.

Smiler is a farm kitten, about 5 months old.

Baby has turned into a most delightful and affectionate cat. We were told she is 11 but she doesn't look anywhere near that. She is still a little timid with sudden movements or loud noises. She is very friendly.

We have an 8 year old tortoishell cat just come in. She was about to be put to sleep because of a mass on her underside. Luckily we got a phone call, and brought her here. She has had the lump successfully removed, and is doing brilliantly. She is so sweet and is extremely friendly.

Trampas is a fluffy tabby cat, about 14 years old. He is extremely affectionate and loves a fuss. When he first arrived he walked a bit oddly on his back legs. However, he has been on homeopathic drops and the result has been a minor miracle. He is now walking almost perfectly on his back legs. He is a fabulous cat. He would probably like an indoor home, or one with a safe garden. He has the most beautiful face, and wise, friendly eyes.

Little Dorrit
Little Dorrit is now here with us. There is nothing little about her as she is huge, and looks like possibly a Maine Coone or Norwegian Forest Cat. She was a much loved, long-haired cat. Her owners are having to go into rented accommodation where they cannot keep the cat. They are heartbroken at having to find a new home for her. She is microchipped, spayed and up to date with her vaccinations. She is 12. Sorry we have no photo, but if you would like to know more, give us a call. She has been quite stressed by the move, and we are trying to help her settle.

Whiskey and Ginger are 14 years old.

These cats came in from a very stressful situation. The have settled really well. Whiskey is on medication for a thyroid problem, which is now stable. Ginger is on homeopathy for slight arthritic legs. This will make a difference. They are both excellent at taking their medication. They are lovely cats, affectionate and loving. Just want a lap to sit on.

Gizzy was homed but has had to come back to us due to a change in the owners circumstances. We always take a cat back if it becomes necessary. We had many requests for Gizzy when he was first with us. If you would like to know more, then get in touch. He is 14.
