Cats of the month:

Why should I give a home to an older cat?

there are many good and valid reasons why an older cat should be considered: many of the cats that come to us are ready made pets from already kind and loving homes and so will settle into a new home more readily esp. with our advice and support.

all our cats are neutered before leaving our shelter and so there is no immediate expense, sometime they may be vaccinated and chipped by previous owner.

there are many situations which are more suitable for older cats e.g. older people, and as indoor only cats

older cats are house trained and used to people

although we do have kittens from time to time and home them easily our personal sympathies go to the adult cats who are less trouble and who will not (usually) trash the house on a regular basis!

by having one of our cats you enable us to help others by letting us keep our numbers on an even keel, every day the phone rings with more cats needing to come in.

we supply all non-vet advice with the cat as well as loaning equipment if needed and are always a phone call away, and of course if the new cat doesn't work out we always take him/her back without hesitation.

because some of our cats have an awful time before they come to use they always make loyal and loving cats, it is as if they have seen the rougher side of life and appreciate a loving environment

This is Bob he is a 2 to 3 yr old cat  Bob  is outgoing and talkative - loves to explore inside and out.

Gina is a lovely mature tortoiseshell tabby.
Gina (who is about 6 years old) is an explorer. We would preferably like her to be homed in a country situation. She is really friendly and loves to curl up on the bed.

Gizmo is a ginger 13 yr old male. Would love to be on own in a house and is very friendly. He needs vitamin drops daily - but is very good about it.

This is Sooty. Brought in to be put to sleep by the local vet because her owner had passed away. The lady at the vets contacted us. She has been checked over and has full bill of health but is on thyroid tablets twice a day in her food - this is no problem as she has a good appetite.

very friendly lovable cat - ideal company for a mature person.

This is Izzy, unfortunately the photographer was having a bad day when this picture was taken and  failed to reproduce the true beauty of this lovely cat. She is a beautiful grey ginger and white tortoiseshell. She needs to be rehomed as an only cat as she is 17 years old and demands a cuddle.

Marmalade. A gorgeous ginger and white male - very docile and extremely affectionate - a lovely large cat who will fit in well to any situation with or without other cats.

This is Bertie (Roberta), she is approximately 14 years old and is a very loving cat. She will sit on your knee and cuddle up and purr. She sleeps a slot but is also happy to follow you around the garden. She constantly purrs when given attention.

She has lost a couple of teeth and benefits from a softer food diet otherwise she is in excellent health.

This is Brian a male cat about 12 years old. He is independent and likes to mooch around outdoors. On the other hand when tired he loves to cuddle up for a fuss. He eats soft food as he has lost a few teeth but is in great health and has a long soft coat which benefits from regular brushing.

This is Tiddles - when we say the other cats are affectionate, Tiddles wins hands down! You wont find a more friendly adorable cat! She is a star of TV having been featured on ITV Wales recently.

Sophie is another 17yr old cat but this time is a calico tortie. She came to us from the town when the owner moved to Spain. She is stunning and would suit a more mature person.

Mickey looks a little like Bob (top) He is only about 9 months old, has been neutered. A very pretty cat, very friendly and lively - loves to help in the garden - followed us around the other day to do a bit of weeding - very helpful!

Kittens. We are sorry to report we have several kittens that need a new home. All sorts of colours and very friendly and housetrained. We can discuss neutering with you too. Please phone but be aware - we are careful where we home.

Dipsy is approx 14 years old and a short haired black cat. He is affectionate but independent and does like things on his own terms. He likes access to the outdoors but likes his home comforts and would be more suited to a quieter household with no children. He isn't a lap cat but does like company and is used to traffic so would be ok living in a town or in the country. He is not used to sharing with other animals but isn't a fighter when other cats are about but will cry!

This is Fifi. She is a tortoiseshell cat aged about nine and a half. She is neutered and her jabs have just been done. When she was also checked by the vet and found to be in good health. She has a urinary diet to prevent cystitis, She is friendly, and has quite a distinctive character.
